Why Miniatures?
After visiting Miniature World on Vancouver Island the idea of working on miniature dioramas kept nagging me. When I saw the work of
Andrew Belsey and Abigail Goldman, thats what got me going.
Why work in Tins and Bottles?
I really like working in a confined space. On one hand it’s really challenging and on the other it puts limits on what I can do. Otherwise I may not get a diorama finished because I’ll just keep adding things. I like the idea of being able to pull a small diorama out of my pocket.
Why World War II?
During high school I worked at a restaurant and our security guard, Pete Annex, had served in the Army's 782nd Tank Battalion. He would tell me these incredible stories about driving a Sherman tank around Europe in the later stages of the war. He drove a tank with ‘Ooh La La’ on the side of it. Anyway, when I started thinking about making dioramas I wanted to work with Sherman Tanks because of his stories. That and GHQ makes fantastic little 6mm soldiers and vehicles.
While I like reading World War II history and fiction, I'm not an expert. I do research and try to get things right, but I'm sure there are plenty of things I get wrong.
What camera do you use to take the images on your web site?
I use an iPhone 8 with Olloclip macro and wide angle lenses. They make great attachment lenses for the iPhone.
Thanks for visiting my webpage, I hope you enjoy it. And please take a look at Andrew's and Abigail's websites.
